I relate freedom to consciousness.  The more that I am aware, the more I can make choices that support my true values and desires.  When I am fully conscious I am in charge of creating my world through my choices and perceptions of it, I feel excited and free.  I have an unlimited amount of possibilities.  This brings me peace to my mind and soul.  May you find your way to peace and freedom through your ever awakening consciousness!

 Get Smart

 

In the last Live Your Best Life! Newsletter I asked you to:

 

  1. Write down what you desire for the year with the attitude of big & bold thinking.
  2. I asked you to think about what you will give up or let go of this year that is not serving you. (e.g., worry, addictions, weight, unhealthy relationships…)
  3. I asked you to commit to getting what you desire and letting go of what you don’t want in your life.

 

In the previous exercise you were to consider:  What you want to be, What you want to do and what you want to have.  You were to explore those desires in all areas of your life:  health, relationships, career, financial, home life, family, spirituality, fun, and recreation.

If you haven’t done so yet, please do it now while you are thinking about it.  I promise the time is well worth it.  You have to do the work in your mind first before you can manifest it materially in your life. 

 

Today we are going to focus on creating your goals, so you will know where to put your attention.  Goals are SMART:

                                                S = Specific

M = Measurable

A = Achievable

R = Relevant

T = Time-bound

 

  1. Take the desires you wrote down earlier and organize them  into short term goals (less than 1 year), mid term goals (1-3 years), or long term goals (4+ years).

 

  1. For this week’s exercise we will be working on a short term goals.  Pick one or two short term goals that excite you.  We will address longer goals later. The more focused you can be, and not scattered with many goals at once, the more successful you will be.  What you put your attention on expands.  If you have a little energy in a lot of areas you will get a lot of little results.

 

  1. Write down each of the goals you are going to work on the top of a page of paper as if you are already living your results.

  1. Under them, write why these goals are important to you.  You have to feel compelled to move forward or you won’t have the motivation to stay the course when you bump up against some of your obstacles.  A should is not enough.  A should is usually someone else’s belief.  What do you believe you will gain from getting the results you want?  Again look at how the results will affect all areas of your life.  Who would you become if you accomplish this?  What benefits will this growth bring you?  What is the cost to you if you don’t complete this goal?

 

Example:  I have excellent health; I am strong, vital and healthy.  I move, play easily and dance pain free. My body functions optimally with my hormones in balance and with little inflammation in my body.  I weigh 145-150 lbs., with ideal body fat.  My mind is clear, quick and I have excellent memory.  I have great abundance of energy and sleep like a baby 8 hours a night.  I am confident and happy.  I feel empowered and love myself and others.  I am excited for all the possibilities to come and all that I am producing in my life.  I move my mind and body everyday in healthy ways.  I have valued relationships.  I feel positively connected to the earth and others.  I live more consciously everyday.  My life is full of passion and creation.

 

Notice in the above description how I am writing in the positive present tense and I am envisioning the results I desire. It just isn’t excellent health.  Excellent health could look and feel very different for you than it does for me. Imagine your desired result with great clarity; see yourself living it, feeling it, doing it, being it, and having it! 

 

Also, notice I am not concerned about the “hows” of this process at this time.  We’ll address this next time when we create a plan of action.  Regarding one of my long term goals, I have no idea how I will get there, I just have my desire.  

 

My “why” for excellent health:  I desire excellent health because I see myself living an incredible life to a very old age and I want to live a quality life with my partner, friends, my children, and my grandchildren.  I like adventure, traveling the world and being in nature.  The cost of not being healthy to me would limit a lot of the activities that I desire to do and the pleasures of life I seek.  Disease gets in the way of living the good life!   I feel good about myself and I lead by example for others.  It honors my values of who I am.  I feel free and alive when I am at my optimal health!  I am my best when I treat myself the best.  I feel most excited about life when I am healthy.

 

After reading my example, can you see why my goal of excellent health is so important to me?  I will do whatever it takes to make it so because of what compels me forward and what repels me from having less than I desire.  It is very important for you to be clear about your motivation.

 

Our next newsletter will cover creating a plan to help you reach your goals.  Do the above work so you will be ready to get into action. Do it now and give yourself time to reflect on your choices, use your imagination to vision as specifically as you can the results you desire.
